gmail is great

how do you get gmail? -by invitation, send me an email asking for one and i'll send you one :) (you get 100 each a month i think)

you get 2.5gb (and rising) mb of space to play with

the best feature (for speed) is how your contacts work, you start typing them in and it guess it for you!

and all emails are stored as 'conversations'. ie if you send an email to a load of people, all of the replies will go into that email (they don't all come back as seperate emails making your inbox look a mess!)

this is a mail i sent and had 42 replies and or replies again from me, with hotmail my inbox would be a right mess by now!

after clicking on here, you see this

and on the right hand side..

if you click expand all, you'll see who sent what, and the subject.

you can then click on whichever reply you want, and forward or reply to that mail (and it won't send other peoples replies)

you can 'star' important emails so they're easy to find

instead of folders, you set labels, an email can have more than one label, like family, mum etc.

now, when registering, if it can tell youre in the uk, it'll give you @googlemail.com, not @gmail.com so to overcome this, you need to use an american proxy. find a US proxy via Google (one of the first results is this to save you searching)

In your browser go to (usually) Tools/Options and enter the IP/Port in the proxy options.

You'll then be able to browse via the proxy so all your web traffic is routed through this and it would appear as if you had an american IP.

A warning however, that the proxy could be logging everything you do, so be careful on what you go on.

-turn this off once its done..
